After departing from Gwangju, I took a but to Seoul. From Seoul I flew to the Philippines. (I'm skipping this part of the story, because it was AWFUL.) From the Philippines, I flew to Honolulu. I was rather glad to finally be here, in my new home. Our friend, Theresa, picked me up at the airport. She even brought me a lei! She took me to Eric's house, and then took a picture of me wearing the lei, standing in the doorway to his house. Mind you, Eric was not expecting me home for about another 2 weeks. It was morning - and Eric was at work. I didn't want to distract him too much from work, so I took a shower, a nap, and unpacked a bit. Around 4 in the afternoon, when we thought his work day would be almost over, Theresa sent Eric a text message with the picture of me, nothing else. He glanced at it, thinking it was an old picture, and continued with his work day. He worked late.
A few hours later, Eric was still working and we had heard nothing from him. I was about to burst from excitement. After watching me pace the floor and anxiously run to the window every time I heard a car, Eric's room mate, Mick, took a picture of me. I was just chilling on their sofa, clearly that same day.
Immediately, Mick's phone rang. He passed it to me. I answered, "Aloha, Eric my Love!"
He was like, "Wait. You're on the island? You RAT!"
So, when he finally got home that evening, the surprise had already been spilled - but this was when Eric first came in, not quite really believing that I was here.
Of course, I snapped a picture before attacking him with hugs and kisses:
It was exciting to be back in the United States, but strange because I had only vacationed here and soon this island would be my new home, with my then fiance but soon to be husband. It was SO good to finally be back with my wonderful Eric!
