January's trip to Hawaii, part I

In mid-January, we got a Winter Break.  I had a few days off from school/work; but since I also have weekends off, I quickly figured out that if I just took one more day off, I could have NINE days in a row off.  Hooray!  I went to Hawaii to visit Eric, by way of Japan.  Here are some of the pics from my trip...
I do have a bit of a strange fascination with trees... but this one is super cool!
My handsome Eric, driving us to the beach...
 Hawaii.
January is surfing season in Hawaii.  Some of the beaches we went to had some HUGE waves, where only professionals could surf and the rest of us couldn't go into the water.  It was still cool to see though.
We looked at waves by the rocks.  (um, a little camera issue cut some of the picture from the bottom and put it on top in some of these photos)

The waves make little waterfalls over some of the rocks.

Some of the waves for 15 feet high!

Eric looking at the ocean.  Two things I love...
Can't you just hear the roar of the waves?
Hawaii has mountains and the ocean and trees... and beautiful, warm sunshine!

 Sunrays over the mountains.
Monday, we went hiking up this mini mountain. Eric is a wonderful hiking buddy!
Hiking was like going through the woods with some small cliffs.  It was extra slippery because it had rained for days.  We went through mud.

Some parts of the trail were wider.
We took some extra breaks for my knee.  Eric is very patient with me.
View of the ocean from part-way up the mountain.
We stopped to look at a little snail on the trail. Awl, how cute.  I named him Sammy.
 Take'n a closer look...  (now that's a handsome face!)

Yo, it was a bit hot.  However, I am thankful for the warmth of Hawaii, especially in January!
