Sometimes, on the way home from the Beach, Eric treats me to a special treat. We go to the North Shore, to the historic town of Haleiwa, and get snow cones. There are a few places in a row to go, so we often pick the one with the shortest line. Recently, we went to Matsumato's, which is famous for their snow cones. Here is their sign, and their address:
Of course, this is touristy. However, it is also a favorite of the locals. We learned a while ago to spring for the holder cup. Here you can get ice cream (think vanilla, soft serve, amazing ice cream) on the bottom, then your shaved ice, then your flavors. Eric also adds azuki beans with the ice cream, which def. remind me of Korean-style treats; but I don't much care for them.
However, this particular day, Eric decided he wanted ice cream, beans, and then topped it all with condensed milk. (I know, this sounds odd-but it's delicious!) Then I heard him ordering, with the word, "Extra". Now, Eric is a big boy and while I cautioned him against his original order, he still decides for himself. So, THIS was his tasty little treat, overflowing and melting in the beautiful Hawaiian sunshine.
It was perhaps a bit too much, even for him!
Of course, I was more than delighted with my snow cone. They just don't make them like this anywhere else, really. I enjoyed the treat, and even better, loved the company!
What is YOUR fav. kind of snow cone? Where do you get them?
